1982 Cobalt CS7
Great condition
From 1982 to 1984 Cobalt built several CS and CM models. These were high end boats from 17' - 23' They are known for their teak gunwales, rumble seats in the bow and welded polished windshield frames among other things. This one has factory tint I think. This is probably the best riding 17' boat you will find. It has a 24 degree deep V hull similar to a Donzi Classic. I have several hundred hours of labor into this boat and more money in parts than my asking price.
This is a 17' model and is serial #65 from the first year of production. I also have many hours behind the wheel of boat #1 from 1984.
New floor, transom and stringers. All marine grade plywood, wrapped and laminated.
I sanded, cleaned and oiled (2x) the teak
This boat was completely disasembled and flipped over, new Gelcoat over the entire bottom from the rubrail to the keel. $1500 in material including new rub rail insert.
2007 Mercruiser Mag MPI 300hp 5.7l 350 Ci. engine from a donor boat.
183.5 scanned hours
I have at least $6000 in the engine and drive package.
Alpha One Gen II outdrive and transom assembly, new impeller and gear lube.
NEW:
Interior: Custom 2 tone using only quality marine grade vinyl from Sailrite. All new foam and mostly new seat wood, again marine grade plywood coated in fiberglass resin to prevent rot. I was told the interior would have been a $5000 job. The front seats are adjustable forward and back. Check out the rumble seat in the pictures.
Motor serviced, new serpentine belt, cap, rotor, plugs, low pressure fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, riser gaskets and bolts. When I had it out of the boat I noticed a few small rust spots on the oil pan so I replaced that too. This motor has the desirable "dry-joint" exhaust system. I spent over $1300 on motor service parts.
New carpet ($400)
New gauges, new depth finder (works great shoot-thru transducer for fewer holes in the transom)
Brand new Bennett dual ram sport trim tabs oversized for the boat cost $750
All new fuel hoses (fill, vent, supply) and a new sending unit in the tank, new fuel vent.
New blower, bilge pump, automatic float and battery cables. Nice sturdy battery box. New blower hose and bilge pump hose.
New stereo Pioneer head unit with MP3 and remote. New Kicker speakers (6x9 rear and 5 1/4 front) Sounds awesome, when you ride in this boat you sit below the top of the windshield so it's quite and you can hear the stereo well while underway. Power antenna works.
New bow light, stern light and post. All new circuit breakers. All of the switches and gauges work including the speedometer, trim gauge and horn.
I have had this boat out 15 time since the work was completed. It's fast, rides good (for a 17' boat) and is good on fuel. It also fits in a standard 2 car garage. Yes there is a porta-potti it's not luxurious but "somebody" refuses to use the coffee can like the rest of us. I have a canvas flap that I made the creates an enclosure of sorts around the potty in the engine compartment where its stays, strapped down for cruising of course. After every ride I clean the boat completely and put it in the garage.
I have had it up to 66 mph (on GPS) under ideal conditions for speed (moderate chop, light on weight) but it's a handful. It would probably do 70 with some minor modifications but I'm satisfied with it the way it is. It planes off effortlessly and I mean effortlessly, It will hold plane at 2100 rpm with the tabs up and 1800 rpm with the tabs down. 3000 rpm is 42mph and 3600 is 50 mph without even working (all speeds are GPS) It spins a 23p Mercruiser Laser 2 prop that's in perfect shape. I have a reconditioned 21p Mirage plus that I will provide at an additional cost that would probably be awesome for waterskiing. I'm sure it will pull a skier with the prop that it has currently without a problem. I can provide many more pictures and if you go to youtube and search "Cobalt CS7 DJI Mavic Air" you will see some cool drone footage of the boat. I am only selling it because I just bought a 25' Checkmate.
It has brand new Sunbrella mooring cover that travels well. It includes a matching storage bag and new support pole/web structure thing.
I went through the trailer to make sure that it's reliable. 2 new rims and tires, upgraded load rating radial tires to "D" and galvanized wheels. Bearings checked and greased. New bunk wood and carpet. New lights (working) and winch. Yes I have a registration for it. In February I trailered this boat to the Keys and back 600 miles without incident.
Complete Coast Guard kit included. New lifejackets, flares, fire extinguisher , type 4 throwable etc. Also included is an anchor, new fenders and lines. Everything stows beneath the rear bench seat. There is an awesome cooler in the rear floor that hold a case of beer+ with ice and stays cold for a long time. 5 life jackets and other stuff stow in that canvas bag on the port side of the engine. It's secured to the engine compartment floor to keep it from flying around in there.
$14,950 or best offer. Jim phone if you have any questions, text preferred.
The boat is ready to go and can be used today. It is being sold "as-is" with no warranty and no returns.
Questions
Good Morning Jim,
I love your boat! I know the purpose of posting it here is to sell her, but I wanted to let you know you inspired me to restore FGE7V009M82B which if I read right could be the 9th CS-7 built? I picked her up from a fellow outside of Wichita Kansas three years ago. She has a lot of dock rash and pretty dull gel coat but has potential.
I would be in the market to purchase yours if someone purchased my two Harley Davidsons but for now my CS-7 will have to do.
Again, thank you for the inspiration. Feel free to contact me.
Best Regards,
David
