We discuss the significance of the blue dot in our May 8th write up, but at the risk of redundancy, heres the scoop..This was a special order boat from the Commercial Products Division of Boston Whaler, built to a higher standard with significantly more fiberglass. The CPD primarily produced military and law enforcement boats for government agencies as well as commercial work boats. This special order hull would have been a significant up-charge over the standard, yet already very desirable Newport. She was originally sold through No. 9 Marina on Lake Eufaula in Oklahoma.I looked them up, theyve been around since 1971, no longer sell Whalers, have an active Facebook page, are a full service marina, and look like a fun place to visit - and after 38 years their decal is still on the transom! Fifteen years later, owner #2 bought the boat and towed her 200 miles down the road to Hot Springs County, Arkansas. He had her re-powered shorty thereafter with a Honda four stroke 90 and caught many-a fish in the local lakes.Fast forward 22 years and we bought her from that guy!We love finding these quality freshwater Boston Whalers - and theres certainly no saltwater to be found anywhere near those two places! Not many Whalers either! Another thing you wont easily find in Hot Springs County is alcohol.Arkansas is considered to be the driest state in the union with more dry counties than any other - including Hot Springs. Neighboring Oklahomans on the other hand passed a law in 2017 making alcohol sales statewide OK.Speaking of alcohol, this Whalers never been subjected to ethanol. Now theres an amendment I could get behind, the prohibition of ethanol, the 28th amendmentAnyway - our Newport has some other rare options, including the large aft casting deck, which was sold primarily as an add on option for the Striper, Boston Whalers bass boat model which shared the same 17 hull. FYI - in their 1982 brochure, Boston Whaler suggests removing the rear casting chair and covering the aft deck with a soft cushion for family days. She also has the original factory bow mounted casting chair, livewell, bow rails, forward windshield, duel metal fuel tanks, trailer, etc.Back in the 70s and 80s you could order a Whaler a la carte, with most options being installed by the dealer. It could get expensive, but you got exactly what you wanted. So this one is a little difficult to price, as there are no other comps and the likelihood of ever finding another are beyond slim - especially with no bottom paint. I think 20k is probably pretty fair. Its getting a little late in the day, York County is not dry and Im enjoying a nice pre-dinner Cabernet - so give us a call between 10am and 7pm EST if youd like to discuss our Newport.YCM a different kind of boat dealer---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------York County Marine is available everyday by phone between 10am and 7pm EST phoneIf you like Whalers, follow us on Facebook or visit out website, then give us a call!
