ONE MORE TIME!! The high bidder last time was only $200 away from the new lowered reserve!Offering this really nice 1977 Boston Whaler 17' (16' 7") Montauk with 1994 Yamaha 85hp outboard (model C85TLRS) and 2012 LoadRite single axle trailer. This boat is a real gem, super clean, ready for the water. A little history, this boat was delivered from the original Rockland, Mass. facility to Wolf River Marine in Fremont, Wisconsin on July 17, 1977. It ultimately made its way to Long Island, where it was owned by a well known local restaurant/business owner on the North Fork. Over the years, I did occasional maintenance on this boat, and enjoyed many fishing trips with the owner. Early this year, the owner decided to part ways with the boat, and I bought it! In between having a LOT of fun on the water, some upgrades and refurbs were done. It has a new Marine radio, Marine stereo system, Temp gauge and Tach. Wood was recently refinished, the bottom was painted, the top surfaces of the hull/gunwhales were refinished for cosmetic purposes (it looks GREAT!), a lot of SS hardware replaced. The bimini top is in great shape. This has an upsized aluminum fuel tank (not sure of the capacity), so you can be on the water all day without fear of running out of fuel! The motor runs flawlessly! This is an ultra clean boat, a real workhorse. Now, in the spirit of full disclosure, over the years the wiring to the bow and stern lights were cut short, and external wiring was run (see pictures). Also, the rub rail does have a few damaged spots as shown. The boat is located in Riverhead, NY (Eastern Long Island) and can be seen by appointment. Oh, the original HIN stencil is on the transom, it is 3B2726.The successful bidder will need to make all pick-up or delivery arrangements. A $500 deposit via Paypal is required within 24 hours of auction end. Full payment is required within 10 days of auction end. Payment terms are cash in person, or certified check, which must clear before the boat will be released. If you have any questions, please ask, I will do my best to answer them. Good luck, and have fun bidding! On Jan-13-18 at 15:30:13 PST, seller added the following information:
Something that all bidders should know: the current registration for this Whaler shows it as a 1979. That is because, as many of you know, until 1972, boat manufacturers were not required to serialize or otherwise provide a HIN for newly manufactured boats. Starting in 1972, manufacturers began to assign HINs, but there was no federal standard in terms of Manufacturer codes, or number of digits in the HIN. This did not become a federal requirement until about 1978. At that time, there were boats already delivered to the dealers that did not conform to federal standards for HIN format. Therefore, a boat manufactured in 1977 and delivered to a dealer, and sold/registered in, say, 1979, would be assigned a standardized 12 digit HIN, even though that number was NOT originally assigned by the manufacturer. So, in many cases, a boat manufactured in 1977, but actually sold to a consumer and registered for the first time in 1979 would be registered as a 1979 hull. The easiest way to confirm this is to examine the last 2 NUMBERS in the 12-digit HIN: it will coincide with the year of manufacture. In the case of this Whaler, the original stencil number is 3B2726. This indicates that it is the 726th 17' Montauk produced in the 3B series (3A-3C I believe indicate the 17' hull). The newly assigned 12-digit HIN is BWCC5493M77L. All of this information can be confirmed by Boston Whaler, as they still have the original hand written shipping records on file in Edgewater. In fact, I can give you the contact person at Whaler who can confirm all of this information. Just thought this was important to know!
