Classic British Wooden Boat - Casablanca

Casablancais a stunning, fully restored, 25ft Greyhound Launch. Originally built by Andrews of Bourne End in 1936. She has now been totally restored by Andrews Boathouses during 2021/22. Her exterior and interior were stripped back to bare wood, renovated and sympathetically repaired where required. She was then finished with over 16 coats of Awlwood varnish, each coat hand finished before the next coat is applied to give that deep lustrous shine that is synonymous with the classic boats of the period. The varnish alone takes up to a month to apply.

She benefits from an original BMC Vedette engine rebuilt by experts Tom Roy and upgraded with hidden electronic ignition, and her engine bay has been finished to showroom standard. She has been completely rewired with marine grade components and has been fitted out with marine leather upholstery. Finally, as a nod to the present she has been fitted with USB charging ports and portable B&O Bluetooth marine grade speakers all hidden away to ensure she keeps the originality of the launch intact.

The first slipper launch was designed and built by John Andrews at his fathers boatyard on the River Thames in the UK, in 1913. Incorporating a steering wheel and gearbox, for easy manoeuvrability and handling, it was stylistically similar to British sports cars of the day with its distinctive sports shape. The first customer called his launch 'Merk' after his favourite car, a Mercedes. This exact boat is now on permanent display in the British Maritime Museum.

• Caulking replaced on deck
• Bilges scraped back to bare wood, cleaned and painted with three coats of grey bilge paint then finished in cream
• Cockpit floor treated with 16 coats of Awlwood varnish, wet sanded and machine polished to a mirror finish
• Running gear and steering removed, rebuilt and re-packed
• Original steering column retained and fitted a new Bluemels Brooklands steering wheel
• Complete rewire with top quality marine grade wire and fuse boxes
• New custom-made Smiths dials in cream with black markings, includes fuel, rev counter, oil pressure, temperature, voltage and clock
• Custom made chrome plated switch panel with the functions laser engraved
• Original BMC Vedette 950cc petrol engine engine fully rebuilt by Morris experts Tom Roy, with hidden electric ignition in the original casings and new Dynamator (alternator in a classic car dynamo case)
• Engine painted and detailed to a high show standard with hidden wiring so the engine bay is kept clean
• Gearbox rebuilt with all new bearings and seals.
• New exhaust pipe fitted with a CNC machined stainless steel finisher on the stern
• Decks treated with 16 coats of Awlwood varnish, wet sanded and machine polished to a mirror finish
• Original navigator lights stripped back and triple chrome plated
• New brass rub rail with chamfered joints for seamless finish, triple chrome plated
• Triple chromed brass screws, individually plated, used on all chrome fittings
• Bench seating upholstered in burgundy marine leather
