Up for sale is a Classic 1965 Larson All American, 17 FT inboard/outboard with a Mercruiser 110.
First, Id make a terrible car salesman because Im going to tell you the problems up front. 1. The tilt-trim pump leaks down. 2. The seats need to be reupholstered. 3. Soft spots in the floor.
Now for the good. It is a great little boat. I had it out at Rockport today (June 21, 2014). It doesnt leak at all. I had it out for several hours, and when I pulled the plug at the end of the day, not a drop of water came out. The engine is a Mercruiser 110, which is a Chevy 153-- a reliable workhorse of the auto industry. It is 110 HP, a straight 4- cylinder with new plugs and wires last fall. The engine runs great and pushes the boat really well at 20-30 MPH.
It is a great setup for fishing. It has a Lowrance LC X-15 MT fish finder with the big 7 screen (greyscale model). It has six fishing rod holder mounts and four fishing rod holders.
All the gauges work well. It has a speedometer, tachometer, engine temp, oil pressure, amperes, oil pressure gauge, gas gauge and a New speedometer pickup.
All the navigation lights work. It has a good, strong bilge pump, windshield wiper, and a blower for the engine compartment. The battery is in great condition. I got it last July, and have kept it on a battery tender in the garage when it wasnt out on the water. There is also a VHF radio for communications and emergency.
The trailer is a single axel Calkins and it tows really well even at 75 MPH. All of the lights work, it takes a 2-inch ball and it is wired for both a straight flat 4 prong plug or a round 7 prong. The tires have plenty of tread, and after sitting all winter, they only lost a few pounds of air. It is a light set up, that I have towed with a KIA Sorentosince then, Ive upgraded to an F-150, and it hauls easy without killing the gas mileage. The trailer has a great roller setup, which makes it easy to get the boat on and off the trailer.
I also have a 2 stroke SeaKing 12 HP trolling motor that runs well. It has electric start and a 6 gallon plastic gas tank.
Utah only titles boats that are newer than 1985. On older boats like this, the registration serves as the title. http://dmv.utah.gov/boats-and-watercraft
Now to address the problems:
Tilt trim pump leaks down-- its annoying, but an easy work around. You can adjust the trim up and down-- Just remember to raise it up and tie it before you get on the road. It doesnt leak any fluid, so the problem must be inside the pump itself (the pump motor and solenoid works).
Seats need to be reupholstered I havent looked to see what it would cost to professionally reupholster them, but you can get marine vinyl from JoAnn Craft Store for about $60, and use a staple gun to attach it. If youre handy with a sewing machine, you can make it look really nice for not too much. If you just want to replace them, the back to back seats are $160 each at Cabelas.
Soft spots in the floor there are a few spots in the back. It would be nice to cut them out and put a new piece of plywood in and fiberglass over it.
