Beautiful original condition 17' 1961 Hydrodyne Custom with Volvo I/O, 80 HP 4 cylinder, all original gel coat, upholstery, owners manual, bimini top, bimini cover, engine and outdrive, nice trailer with new paint, walk board on left side, spare tire, head gasket was recently replaced, no oil leaks, had manual hydrualic lift for outdrive for tilting. All gagues and lights work. Starts easily and runs 4400 RPM about 40 MPH, boarding ladder, new floor paint.
These Hydrodynes were a high quality product which cost $2900 in 1961. All fastener and fittings, chrome and trim are of the highest quality. The floating front seat is an engineering marvel, two coil springs and one shock absorber makes this the smoothest riding 17' boat ever made. The trailer is modern with large wheels and buddy bearings, winch and hitch are in good condition 1 7/8 inch ball, lights work. Clear title for boat, bill of sale on trailer. Boat registration is current in the water and used daily. Never left in the water longterm, bottom never painted. Outdrive is smooth in turns,U Joints are in good condition. New 12 gallon gas tank, new tune up, plug wires, coil, generator charges, oil pressure is 55 LBS at speed and temp runs normal. There is 8 storage bins and the rear seat folds up to access storage underneath.
Overall a very fine example and a low cost and low maintenance entry into classic boating. Few wood boats around anymore and these early classic Fiberglassics are in high demand. Easily garaged and moved on single axle trailer. Ready to cruise or tow anywhere.
Defects: cracked windshield, company in Florida can make new for $150, google "Hydrodyne windshield", a few scratches in hull gel coat, dock ding on port side, dented the trim and fiberglass. screw holes in port deck alongside the windshield where handheld spotlight was mounted, easy find on classifieds board, bimini top needs zipper replacement, speedometer needs new tubing from pitot tube. Other than these minor items this boat is perfect and in amazing condition for 53 years old. Never stored outside. Also new cover goes with it. Only selling because I have two wood boats that keep me busy.
Questions
Hello, I recently bought a HydroDyne and my dipstick top fell off, so I have no way to figure out if my oil level is good or not. Would you be so kind as to measure from the bottom of your dipstick to the top and let me know how long it should be? I thought about just changing the oil and setting it based on that, however I can't find any specifications as to how much oil it should take to fill it. Thank you! Bruce...
Bruce,
Did you get an answer to your question? I have a 1964 HD with the Volvo Penta AQ120/100, a very similar engine block and can give you the dipstick length and oil capacity if you still need it.
Regards, Scott
Hi, do you still have your boat and what price do you have on it , Thanks Jim
