Averaging less than 7 hours engine time for the 33 years of usage, the boat was largely used as a floating cabin in the Elk Rapids Marina and stored for 4 or 5 of the last 8 years in Indian River, for lack of crew. The boat is equipped with an older navigation system and with radar. All systems were working when last used.
The forward cabin contains a separate head/shower, galley and a convertible dinette/v-berth, a locker and a sound system. There is a forward hatch and opening ports.. The center cockpit has two person wide forward facing benches at the front and additional seating for three behind. The port forward seat reverses to face a dinette table with seating on both sides.
Stepping down into the aft cabin, there is near twin bed size berth on the port side and a one person berth to starboard. There is a vanity cabinet with sink and mirror and storage lockers. All decks have fitted carpet. The top of the aft cabin has a full cushion, although the previous owner used a carpet here to afford a perch for two dogs. The company list the sleeping capacity at 6 persons; with children and some accommodation, it could probably sleep 8.
All maintenance including annual oil changes, were performed by the previous owner, a superb mechanic and since have been performed by the professional staff at Indian River Marina. The boat has been kept clean.
The galley includes an electric refrigerator, a toaster oven, an electric/alcohol dual range stove. There was also a small microwave now defunct. Equipment includes a complete assortment of fenders, lines, several anchors, one or two power lines, a gaff, extinguishers and if not removed again, carbon monoxide sensors.
Low to the water and wide, this cruiser is a delight to pilot. It can plane at around 8 knots, a gas sipping speed, but will also cruise nicely at around 18 knots. With the new high efficiency props fitted the last time the boat was in the water, the boat is vibration and rattle free and has been clocked by GPS at 30 knots. The boat moves with considerable authority, and reminds one of a PT boat. The transom swim platform has davits for a dingy, a ladder to the water and another to the deck. There are no present fittings for towing recreational inflatables, but that could likely be accommodated with a harness to both rear cleats. Then the swim platform could be used to transport the dingy. Canvass forward of the radar arch is removable as well as the canvass aft, which also folds down for full exposure.
Questions
Is the Carver Rivera 28 Ft Double Cabin still available?
Selling my 32' Chris Craft Sea Skiff. I always liked the Carver Double Cabins and thought a 28' might be an excellent replacement. I spend summers in Algonac Mi. at our condo. The canal leading to the condo is about 10' deep, so I have plenty of water. The docks at our condo will accommodate up to only 32 feet. So the a 28' would do nicely. Let me know if this particular offering is still available
