Chris Craft 17 Ski Sportsman

I bought this boat 3 years ago and spent a year and a half restoring and adding modifications. The boat came out of Ohio, where the bottom end of the original 283 was rebuilt and balanced in 2003. The original soaker bottom was professionally replaced with 1/2" marine plywood and hand laid fiberglass. It is super smooth and blends perfectly. I scuff sanded andpainted it with two coats of Pettit Unepoxy Plus bottom paint. Wave your cursor over the images for close up detail.......

I stripped the boat to bare wood and removed everything from the interior. Replaced several small pieces of rotted wood with new mahogany. Sealed every opening, bolt hole and screw hole with Smith's penetrating epoxy. Built a new mahogany dash, back seat and two piece engine cover. Stained the wood with Interlux Chris Craft. Applied two coats of Interlux Sealer and then applied six coats of Interlux Schooner varnish sanding between each coat. Did this waiting at least a month between each coat. Painted the interior with two coats of premium oil based enamel. The deck is 1/2" plywood and the Kingplank is solid mahogany. The plywood deck has several small areas at the stern deck edges that have been sanded thru. Theyblend in fairly well and don't hurt the overall appearance. I stained the deck grooves and Kingplank with Black Walnut instead of the original white and blonde.

Installed a new floor system using 3/16" aluminum plate. Very light and no sagging. Painted the aluminum with Kiwigripnon slip deck coating. Floor stays cool and looks much better than the standard stuff to me.

New engine parts I installed include; Edelbrock 1409 600 cfm carb, K&N Flame arrestor, Pertronix Flamethrower electronic marine distributor, coil and wires, NGK plugs, Roadmaster aluminum 100 amp alternator, Airtex Marine mechanical fuel pump and hoses, Sherwood water pump impellers, Goodyear cooling hoses, NOS Morse throttle lever, Rebuilt original starter with new solenoid, Rocker arm adjusting nuts, Water temp and oil pressure senders, Seals and gaskets on manual reverse gear transmission. New 1" stainless double taper prop shaft with new tapered trans coupling. This isa new prop shaft and coupling for a 71 Mastercraft that I shortened and machined to the correct length. New cutlass bearing and flax packing. Had the old nibral bronze prop upgraded, repitched from a 12x14 to a 12x16 and cupped. This prop makes for a great cruising speed with the engine turning 2000 rpm. Engine compression is good and thevacuum gauge I installedreads a dead steady 21inhg. Oil pressure 10-15 at idle 25-30 at speed.

New electrical parts I installed include; Five Autometer dash gauges (2 temp, oil, volt, rpm), 2 Optima Bluetop D27M batteries, Perfect Switch Automatic electronic battery isolator, 100 & 35 amp circuit breakers, 100 amp isolator fuses,fuse block for glass fuses, 4 newdash switches, Bilge blower, 2 Bilge pumps, Built in CTEK Multi US 7002 battery charger/maintainer, Kill switch and 12v power port.Every wire in this boat is new, high quality and properly sized. All wires 16 gauge and larger in this boat have soldered connections and sealed with heat shrink tube. Every circuit is fused or has a circuit breaker. I installed five Hella 10 LED Red light bars under the gunnels and front deck. They are hidden from site and light the whole interior red at night. Also a solid brass bar with Blue LED's under water on the transom. In clear water they really light up the water behind the boat.

The stereo system is an Alpine CDA 9886 with two amplifiers. One for the four 6" speakers and one for the Sub Woofer. I use it with an Ipod Nano 4th and the system sounds fantastic. Easy listening or be the DJ at a party..... It will get real loud if you want. I used high end audio wire for the speakers.

The deck hardware, windshield and steering wheel are original. The windshield has some scratches, but no cracks. The steering wheel is kinda gnarly and gives the boat some more character. I rewired the Jetson stern light pole.

The upholstery was done five years ago and has three seasons of use. It is in good condition, but does have several small light stains.

Included with the boat; 4 new Stearns zip up life jackets, throw ring, 4 Taylor Made fenders and the custom made Sunbrella Surlast water line cover. The leftover bottom paint, floor paint and some varnish.

The trailer also came from Ohio and is made from structural steel instead of formed sheet metal. It is in good condition except for the tires. They have plenty tread, but are 10 year old 15" bias ply tires. There is no spare. The trailer has been sitting since I have owned the boat.

I rebuilt and modified this boat to my personal tastes. I had no plan to ever sell it, but life happens in the wrong direction sometimes. It is not a judged show boat.Was not meant to be.I built it to be a beautiful and super reliable fun boat and that is the way it turned out. Restomod... I've taken it to two non judged ACBS shows and people just rave about it because it is so different. A good friend of mine that has been restoring and building wood boats for 50 years complemented me for the job I did on this boat several times

This boat is priced at a bargain with all the upgrades. I spent $11,400 in equipment, parts and supplies to put it together. My labor is free, because I enjoyed doing it.

Georgia is a non title state. I will give you a notarized GA Bill Of Sale. There is no lein on the boat. The trailer has a clear Ga title. I will take you for a ride on the lake when we get together on funds. What ever type of payment we can work out, the funds will have to clear my bank before I will release the boat. It is available for local pick up only. I have no way to haul it.
