Carver Boats Commuter

Here is my nice antique wooden boat for sale. It is a vintage 1959/60 Carver "Commuter" made in Pulaski, Wisconsin, withthe original Johnson 50 horsepower outboard motor. This boat was manufactured using"molded ply" technology that used layers of thin mahogany veneers built up in two directions, infused with resin, and cured under 65 PSI pressure in an autoclave. That was cutting edge in the 1950s, but went out with the introduction of lower cost fiberglass in the 1960s. The boat has been used only in fresh water in Illinois, Tennessee, and currently Georgia. It includes a complete set of ivory colored canvas that covers the entire open area of the boat, see pictures. That can be used complete, cockpit cover only, or as a Bimini top and frame, so I have put pictures in showing all configurations. There alsois a heavy duty canvascover, but it needs repair or can be used as a pattern for a new one.All of the original hardware for the boat is still in place and is very 1950s decorative. Check out the steering wheel! The interior carpet has been recently replaced, a newautomatic bilge pump installed,andthe center bow wood was refinished last year. Comes with one 6 gallon fuel tank, a second one is available at extra cost. The clock and speedometer are both NOS installed in 2015 and both work. The boat is in very nice condition for its age with only very few minor flaws. One cushion has a seam rip about 5" long, some of the varnish has flaked off in small areas, and there are small rubs from use. The engine ran fine last spring, summer, and fall and was put up properly for the winter, so I am confident it will start right up now. The cowl on the engine has some of the paint flaking off, not unusual for a 57 year old engine, which will be an easy fix. Also, a cable for the lock on the engine mount has come loose and will need attention, another minor fix that should be an easy fix. Otherwise, the boat is ready to go in the water now. The boat is currently registered in my name in Georgia. The trailer is the original one that was delivered with the boat with new tires and rims bought last year. It trailers very well. Please look at the pictures and be certain it is the boat you want. This could be a nice boat for showing as it is a very rare model and needs just a bit of TLC to be outstanding.
